Noooo, summer, don’t go!

Noooo, summer, don’t go!

Aw, it’s almost over. I smelled it in the air on my bike ride this morning, the leaves of certain trees having already started falling to the ground. Every year, like clockwork, I feel as though school’s about to start and I’m about to lose my freedom, even if my actual adult job is relentlessly busy in the summer and my vacation travels are actually coming up.

It was my first summer as a published author and I appreciated that “vacation readers” was a real thing, driving up my humble indie book sales and leaving me feeling encouraged! I received kind messages from new fans and those honestly made my days. The, uh, homophobic comments on my ads—I could’ve gone without. But such is the internet.

I pushed hard in the first half of summer to finish the draft for book 2, then had to slow my pace as I was visited by friends and family coming here to Montreal for their vacations. But this fall going into next year, I hope to harness some discipline and crush a couple rounds of editing. I fucking love writing, it’s figuring out what else in my life gets sacrificed that’s occasionally tough 😉

CURRENT READS

Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson. It’s a study thing for me. I heard Malazan was the biggest, most epic series in fantasy. I wanted to see what the author did well, how they approached such scale. So far, so good. I’m enjoying it. It’s perhaps not my favorite series but I am curious to see where it goes.

CURRENT GAMES

Date Everything on Switch, because I love Felicia Day, who streamed this. It’s a funny, silly dating sim. Also, I’m still playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 with Alex after several months. Since we’ve had such an incredibly busy summer, we stalled in act 3, but it’s such a cool game with an amazing story. We’ll finish it when we can.

I think that’s all I’ve got for now!

See you next time,

M

P.S. Used one of my old digital painting practices as the main image because it's probably my most summer-y 🙃
